A Family Founded on Love
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
(Matthew 28:19).
Our priorities spring from the Great Commission given to the Church..
A Family Founded on Love.
A Family Founded on Love.
Archangels Catholic Church, Agbede, began in March 2003 when a few devoted Catholics — Mr. Eventius Augustine Ugbeni, Mr. Michael Ajah, and Mr. Peter Ogilegu — came together to unite the growing Catholic families in the area. With the guidance of Mr. Christian Nwosu (of blessed memory), then Catechist of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Odogunyan, a census identified 68 Catholic families in Agbede.
The first gathering took place on 14th March 2003 at Mr. E.A. Egbeni’s home, and the first Sunday service was held at Mr. Ernest Ubuane’s residence. When rain interrupted services, worship moved to Alhaji Ogo-Oluwa’s unused bakery, where the community continued to grow.
In June 2003, Archbishop Emeritus Anthony Cardinal Okojie visited the faithful, encouraged them to raise funds for land, and later supported the purchase of four plots, now the church’s permanent site. Parishioners cleared the land together and built a simple shed that became their first worship space. The Archbishop named the new community “Archangels Catholic Church” and approved its motto, “Family Founded on Love.”
Over the years, harvests and donations helped build the present church structure. On April 2018, Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins elevated Archangels Agbede to a Quasi Parish under Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Odogunyan, with the help of Rev. Fr. Damian Alozie.
The first Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Innocent Chiamaka, arrived on 30th November 2018 and celebrated his first Mass on 7th December 2018. He moved into the parish house in February 2019.
Today, Archangels Catholic Church, Agbede, oversees three Outstations, two of which have since become Quasi Parishes:
St. Anthony Catholic Church, Igbolomu – now a Quasi Parish
St. Paul Catholic Church, Muti – now a Quasi Parish
St. Agnes Catholic Church, Elepete – remains an Outstation under St. Paul, Muti
The parish continues to grow in faith, love, and unity — to the glory of God.
